What are the key dates for Merewether Selective HS Entry 2020?

• Application Period Opens: October 2018. You must apply online, no later than mid November 2018 (specific date to be confirmed by NSW DET) at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement.

• Parent Notification: February 2018. A letter will be sent to applicants advising the examination venue.

• Selective Schools Placement Test: March 2019

• Notification of Placement Test Results: July 2019

Families choose Merewether High because of its academic standing and the enhanced opportunities the school will provide for their children. Merewether High School is an academically selective high school, catering for 1080 students from a wide geographical area within the Hunter Central Coast Region. The school offers a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, focusing on high expectations of student academic achievement. Students attending Merewether are often characterized as high achieving and gifted students. 

 

Why are the ARRENDELL Education Preparation Classes important?

The preparation courses are designed specifically to help students to gain entry to Merewether.  Placements are highly competitive, with only 20% of all candidates offered positions. Therefore, any advantage that a student can gain from thorough and focused preparation, will increase the likelihood of success in gaining entry.

 

Why is ARRENDELL Education so successful in preparing students for the entrance exams?

ARRENDELL provides small group intensive preparation, particularly throughout Terms 3 and 4 of Year 5, and Term 1 of Year 6, leading up to the exams. The preparation courses focus on the required skills of reading, writing and maths.  They also provides guidance and practice with the typical aptitude type questions within the exams.

 

What success has ARRENDELL Education had in preparing students for Merewether entry?

While enrolment in the Preparation Courses is non-selective, almost all students enrolled in the ARRENDELL Merewether Preparation Courses, either gain entry into Merewether as their first choice of schooling, or benefit significantly with enhanced skills to manage the rigors of High School within other school settings, including the Independent School sector.
