Jennifer, Program Coordinator

Jenny is a highly experienced, innovative and exceptionally gifted and dedicated teacher. In recognition of her outstanding teaching skills, she has received certificates of excellence in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Australian Primary Talent Search (APTS). Jenny has also been nominated several times for the National Teaching of Excellence Award, and Quality of Teaching Award organised by the Australian College of Education.

During her extensive teaching career, Jenny has worked in rural and metropolitan schools, including The Armidale School, Armidale; Trinity Grammar School Preparatory School, Strathfield; and Knox Preparatory School at Wahroonga where she was appointed the Gifted and Talented Specialist K-6. Her curriculum knowledge is extensive due to her various grade coordinator positions and her positions as coordinator of several different KLA’s, including English and Mathematics. Jenny has also been involved in setting the minimal national writing standards for students in Year 5. Jenny is passionate about assisting students develop the confidence and skills that are vital for successful life-long learning.

Damon, Secondary Maths Tutor

Damon Giller is ARRENDELL’s lead Maths teacher. Damon has nearly 15 years of experience as a Primary, Secondary and Tertiary level teacher. He has a great love of Maths, especially Algebra and Calculus, and his major focus is making Maths fun and understandable.

Damon grew up in Dunedin, New Zealand. After graduating from the University of Otago, Damon moved to Sapporo, Japan, where he initially taught English as a second language. He then taught Maths at Sapporo’s International High School. This has given him the skills to teach children from many different cultures and backgrounds.

Damon moved to Newcastle in 2010 to be closer to his family, joining ARRENDELL that same year. He has helped to build the Maths course from a handful of students when he began, to over one hundred students and counting. 

At ARRENDELL he teaches Maths and tells awful jokes to primary and secondary students throughout the week.

Damon’s strengths lie in his communication skills. He enjoys talking to his students’ families and engaging students of all abilities. He takes great pleasure in seeing his students develop as they grow in confidence and ability.

Kim D'Amico Secondary English Tutor

Kim has 20 years teaching experience, with 8 years specific to Merewether Selective High School.  She has recently completed a four-year international teaching contract at the competitive, academically selective NIS school in Kazakhstan.

 

During her years at Merewether and in her capacity as Year Advisor over 8 years, she was able to contribute significantly to two separate cohorts through their Years 7-12 and to their respective Year 12 Graduations.  During her teaching career, Kim has been awarded several honours including the coveted President Narsultan Nazarbeyev’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

 

Kim’s areas of expertise include teaching writing, literacy and research with an emphasis on student achievement in English Stages 4-5-6, for academically gifted children. Kim is passionate about student learning and prefers a-hands on approach to learning and motivates her students to perform and achieve at their foremost levels.

Ingrid, K-6 English & Maths Tutor

Ingrid commenced tutoring at ARRENDELL when it was still based in Adamstown. She covers all grades from Kindergarten to Year Six, tutoring both English and Mathematics.

She is very dedicated, enthusiastic and ensures all of her students enjoy the educational process at ARRENDELL. Ingrid believes that ARRENDELL is a fantastic place to work.

I love seeing the familiar smiling faces of the students every week, and can see how much they love learning here. It’s very rewarding being able to see the progress students are making each term, even they get excited about how hard they are working! The staff at Arrendell are so supportive, we have created our own little family which adds to the friendly atmosphere experienced by all who come to Arrendell.

Kerri, K-6 & Secondary English Tutor

Kerri has been teaching and lecturing literacy and writing skills across Australia and abroad for over thirty years. For fifteen of those she taught creative writing at Charles Sturt University under their Development Program. During this time she was invited as one of five lecturers to pioneer that program for the University of Singapore and in early 2000 she was invited to give a series of lectures across the United States. Following that she accepted a position with the Australian College of Journalism where, for six years, she created programs and courses, and tutored in four writing subjects.

Under her own name and pseudonym Kaz Delaney, she is an award winning author with 73 commercially published books, many for the Education Market, with titles published in the US and UK and translations for the French, German, Asian and Netherland markets. A short supplementary career was born as a ghost writer and editor after being asked for advice by a prominent businessman. This resulted in more than twenty books for leading Australian business people, television personalities and educators where she created books on a variety of non-fiction subjects and also formulated TAFE curriculum material and edited academic papers for various professors and lecturers. She is a frequent speaker and tutor in schools, libraries, community education centres and universities across Australia.

In 2006 she joined Gwenda Sanderson and the staff of ARRENDELL Education, and is currently the longest serving ARRENDELL tutor.  Kerri has happily taught and guided hundreds of students over her ten year tenure.

Mark, K-6 English & Maths Tutor

Mark is a passionate Primary Teacher with a strong interest in the area of Stage 2 and 3 English and mathematics. He has taught a range of students from special needs, to gifted and talented in a variety of settings. He specialises in motivating students to believe in themselves and perform at their highest level.
