NAPLAN Preparation Classes

National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

Since 2008, the second full week in May, sees every student throughout the nation in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, involved in three days of assessments that test student skills considered essential for every child to progress through school and life.

NAPLAN was never designed to be a ‘test’ of a specific child’s ability level, but a way of ensuring an ongoing evaluation of how a student is performing over time in the areas of literacy-reading, writing and language conventions (spelling, grammar, punctuation) and numeracy. The data from NAPLAN test results, gives schools and systems the ability to measure their students’ achievements against national minimum standards, and student performance in other states and territories, and to utilise this data to plan for future teaching and learning within the school.

However, the mere thought of three days of assessments can be very stressful for students and their parents or carers. It is a well-known fact that confidence comes from being prepared.  It is also a well-known fact that exam techniques take time to develop, and that students benefit from the direct teaching of such techniques.

At ARRENDELL Education, we feel that it is vital that students always feel they are supported so that they can develop the confidence to do their best. Therefore, we have developed a NAPLAN Preparation Tutorial session that helps reduce the stress of NAPLAN, by providing students with the opportunity to undertake a variety of activities aimed at developing exam technique, and developing student confidence. During the sessions students will work on:

• language conventions of spelling, grammar and punctuation

• reading and comprehension

• creative writing,

• maths and problem solving

• exam techniques

The one hour weekly sessions run in conjunction with the normal tutorial sessions. They begin mid Term One and continue until the second full week in May.
